Secret Word Of The Day: Adult Swim

This has to be some of the best news I've heard in a long time: Pee-wee's Playhouse is coming to Adult Swim.  When I was a kid, the show was my favorite thing in the world.  It was important in so many ways...  The for-kids-but-not-quite humor, the sheer randomness, the hard-earned lesson about good TV shows getting canceled and maybe the most important lesson of all: no matter what kind of movie theater it is, there is no appropriate place to whip out one's junk.

The cancellation of Pee-wee's Playhouse was unfortunate, but it also didn't leave room for the show to decline.  Starting July 10, we'll be able to catch every single episode of Paul Reubens' brilliance plus the Christmas special in all their original glory.  Adult Swim just keeps doing good things - if the rest of TV was as loyal, responsive and understanding of viewers as the 'Toon network's late-night programming block, it'd be, well, worth watching.

I was pretty pissed when crappy episodes Saved By The Bell started showing up in my beloved animated adult humor spot and pleased when they stopped.  This announcement, though, is something else entirely - Pee-wee fits in with the rest of Adult Swim's lineup perfectly.  It's a "kid's" show, much like many of the cartoons that air in the block, but it's got a very mature layer built in that makes it have a much broader appeal.

Anyway, tune in July 10 at 11 p.m.  I know I sure as hell will.
