After Festin' it up last night into this afternoon, I can officially announce the big differences as I move from Night to Day.
It's really friggin' hot. As opposed to last night, accidently brushing into people as they walk by is now probably one of the most disgusting things imaginable.
Intolerable children stray from their parents, ramming into strangers because their cranky that Mom didn't want to buy them a $7 Italian Ice. The parents try to hold their kid's hand while this occurs, but to no avail. Somehow, these little brats still manage to step on your feet or wing their drippy little ice cream cones around fast enough to get a few gross, sticky drops on your leg.
The heat doesn't affect everyone, though. Those Goth kids you saw everywhere last night still manage to show up at 2pm in the afternoon (I guess they forgot the rules from all their little books on "vampirism").
Best of all, they're still all decked out in their most fashionable Marilyn Manson-lite attire, dressed in heavy chains and dark, body-covering fabric...or their most summer-appropriate body-length leather coat, making them look like a skinny, pimple-clad version of Neo from The Matrix.
Still, the music remains good, especially for a mid-afternoon. A surprisingly young-looking polka band is rocking the Festplatz and Dakini played a surprisingly good set up on Main. The rocking looks to continue as the evening brings Alice in Chains. Here's hoping the new lead singer can fill the void of the late Layne Stanley (very doubtful, but I have hope).
Until tomorrow,
Donnie Rucker
