Suddenly Tech-Challenged

I always thought I was pretty smart when it came to technology but I guess I'm just good at reading directions. Since I got my iPod I've been scrambling to figure the thing out. Apple has never been very good about offering detailed directions. Yes - I know what the basic functions of the buttons and scrolls are from the graphic, but beyond that I'm clueless. It took me two days to figure out how to stop my computer from just downloading anything and everything every time I plugged in my iPod. Maybe I'm losing my tech edge? Or maybe I'm getting old? AH! Or maybe I'm just making too much of all this and I should have simply paid more attention to the defaults and setups when I installed iTunes? Damn, I hate it when I'm dumb and right at the same time.
