Movie Magic

Illusionist I saw The Illusionist yesterday (with Edward Norton, Jessica Biel and Paul Giamatti), mostly because I just wanted to see it, but partly because I want to compare it with The Prestige (Chritian Bale, Hugh Jackman and Scarlett Johansson) when it comes out. Two magic movies in the same year...it's typical. There are always two of the same theme that come out around each other - there were the tornado ones, the volcano ones, the animted animals escaped from the zoo ones.. and the list goes on. Whatever the reason, this year, it's magician movies. Both the above mentioned movies have killer casts, so that's the main reason I'm so intrigued. Plus, magic is always fun and that Prestigekind of subject pretty much guarantees some mystery and some cool special effects.

Having said all that and having now seen The Illusionist, I have pretty high expectations for The Prestige. It looks to have a fairly different plot but the underlying mystery/magic parts are likely the same. Now I can't wait!!!! I'll let you know how it measures up once I get to the theater in a few weeks. Wanna add your two cents in the meantime? Hit up our message boards.
