A Case Of The Fridays

Forget "The Mondays"... I have a case of the Fridays. It's the itch to just leave work at 10 a.m. because the week is over and there's just no point in dragging it on any longer. Then there's that guilt and that pile of work that's still sitting there. I always want to put it off but it's just not going to go away. And so, I plug away, Friday after Friday with a dreams of Powerball winnings and cruises around the world dancing in my head. At least Monday flies by with busy stuff. Friday is the longest day of the week and it just doesn't have the same wonder as it used to. I KNOW you know what I'm talking about.

Salad Cravings... huh?

I had the most rockin' salad the other day from Quiznos. It was one of their new chopped salads and I couldn't stop talking about it all day (after I ate it). The portion was generous, the ingredients were truely fresh and the dressing and pita bread only made it better. It was like a sit-down restaurant quality salad. I couldn't believe my eyes or my tastebuds. Since then I have been craving another one so today might have to be the day. Forget the subs, eat Quiznos salads!
Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that all fast food salads are created equal because I believe that most of them are a sucky rip-off, but not this one. Check it out!

Messy Desks

No matter where I am, what I'm doing or how much work I put into preventing it, my desk always winds up a mess. My desk at home can go from spotless to embarassingly cluttered in a matter of days, if not hours. The desk here at work is never particularly clean, but right now there's barely any visible space.
I'm not quite sure how it happens - stuff just winds up piling up. Even when I try to straighten it out it winds up getting messy again within hours. I try to throw stuff away to no avail, and the clutter builds and builds.
Maybe I should just surrender and let it all pile up over my head. I'm sure that's some kind of safety hazard, but at least I wouldn't have to stress about the mess if it all falls and crushes me to death.

LUCKY!

Doesn't it seem sometimes that everyone is catching a break... but you? I know how you feel. I've been bombarded with good news but none of it's mine.
A good friend just got an awesome new job, my parents just got back from Europe where they scored some unexplainable but killer upgrades, another friend just had a healthy baby girl, a couple I know just found a great apartment and moved to Long Island, even Oprah got a push for becoming president... and the list goes on.
As much as I want to be happy for everyone, sometimes all I can think about is "what about me?" How come I don't get to have any good news to share? I guess my time will come, but geeze, how long do I have to wait? I know everyone out there feels my pain on that one, so here's my stab at looking at the bright side: "Everything Is Going To Work Out Great" (to: anyone, from: me)

Forgetting Essentials

I've been out of laundry soap for almost two weeks now. I'm getting dangerously close to running out of clean clothes, and the "dirty" pile is looking ominous. It's not that I'm a bum or lazy or anything, it's just that I keep forgetting to pick more up.
I even make shopping lists, because I'm so forgetful, but for some reason laundry soap never makes the list. At this point, I'm going to have to make a specific trip to the store just to get some so I can refresh my wardrobe. Maybe I'll stop today after work... unless I forget again like yesterday, and the day before, and the day before that...

President Oprah? EW!

Writing Mickey Mouse as your presidental vote is silly but a lot of people do it to show their frustration. Everyone knows he'll never really get elected. But the talk today about people wanting Oprah to run for president is just not funny. Knowing how dumb voters can be, she actually COULD get elected. Thank goodness she's backing someone else.
Which brings me to my next issue. Who cares who Oprah is backing for president? Only the seriously brainwashed. For more on that refer back to my original post: There's Something About Oprah and the slew of comments from our readers. The story about her pick for president is one of the top links today on just about every entertainment and news site. It's digusting, really.
If Oprah ever becomes the first female presidential candidate, I'm moving to France with Johnny Depp.

Why Is Water So Damn Expensive?
Posted by Tucker Hottes at 01:20:32 PM on September 25, 2006

I paid $1.69 for 20 oz of water today. That is ridiculous. I shelled out the cash, naturally, but give me a break - why is water as expensive as something filled with artificial ingredients like soda? Can it really cost as much to purify and bottle WATER as buying all the dozens of raw materials and preservatives that go into making a soda or fruit drink?
The worst part about it all is that we don't have water here in the office - when I first started someone told me I could pay a monthly fee and use the water cooler on the other side of the building. Thanks, that's great, but I think I'll stick to bringing my own or buying it overpriced from the vending machine.
I think it says a lot about our society when we have really expensive "gourmet" water like Evian and even the "low-rent" stuff is a buck a bottle. What is this world coming to? Next I'll be shelling out 10 cents a minute for air. You laugh now, but just wait... it'll happen.

I can't believe I didn't win

I don't play the lotto or powerball very often but when I do I have a genuine hope that I will win. So, as you can imagine, I was pretty crushed this morning to find out that I DID NOT win the $203 million. One person won it and I don't know who but all the matters is that it wasn't me. I am seriously bummed. Although I know the odds are outrageously slim I guess I still always think I have a good chance of winning. It's silly I guess but that hope gets me through another week every time. By the end of the day I'll be over it and thinking positive about winning $15 million on Wednesday. Hey - it could happen.

Computers Are Getting Fast & Cheap

It seems like a statement of the obvious, but computers are getting fast and cheap. So why is my work PC so slow I can barely use MS Word, let alone the various processor- and memory-intensive applications like Photoshop and the like?
Well, I don't have an answer for that. Chalk it up to budget constraints or something. Yesterday I did some work on my own MacBook Pro, which is fast as hell, and I toyed with the idea of bringing it in all the time. But why should I use my own gear for work? If I sit here and suffer maybe one day my prayers will be answered.... but probably not.
(note: I wrote this in April, my computer is just getting around to posting it today. Just kidding.... or am I?)

Tech Catchup

I've finally come around... I've decided that I need an iPod and TiVo. I know that I am the only person undert 35 left that doesn't have one or both of these items, but that's all going to change this year.
I was all set to give in to the iPod first but then I saw something on TV about a new Microsoft version coming out called the Zune. Crap! Now do I wait until that comes out and buy the better one or do I just get to it and buy an iPod now?
As for TiVo, I know there are probably a million other DVR options out there now so that's going to take some investigation before purchase. Then again, is a DVR really worthwhile when you only have a 19-inch TV?
I realize that right now all you gadget geeks are cringing and weeping for me. Sorry you had to hear this, but it just had to be said. I'm tired of my lame portable CD player skipping when I run and I'm really tired of missing good shows when I can't be home to watch TV. Something must be done.
Wait a minute... how much is this going to cost me?
