So even after I talked about how I don't go to movies anymore, I decided to try for a run to Carmike theater on Friday to see Crank. I was cutting the time close, since I wanted to squeeze it in early and get to the rest of the things I had to do, so I showed up about 10 minutes after the start time (I knew I'd still be sitting good 10-15 minutes of commercials/previews, so I wasn't worried).
I asked for my single ticket and handed over a credit card - at which point the teen behind the window informed me they don't accept credit cards. What kind of movie theater in the 21st century doesn't take cards? No matter, he said - debit cards work fine. So I pulled out my debit card, and spying the logo he interrupted me again. "Sorry, our connection with Interlink is down, we can't take those debit cards."
So I want to know just what debit cards they DO take - if they can't take a Wachovia card with Interlink/PLUS, then what? Show me a debit card that's NOT Interlink/PLUS. It's absolutely ridiculous. They might as well put up a sign in the window that says "sorry, we don't want your business."
Out of options, I put my wallet away and walked out of the theater. I was so angry I was planning on never going to the theater again - until Saturday when I got cash out and saw the movie as a matinee (for a "cheap" $6).
I'm going to start considering traveling larger distances if I want to see a flick. Even though Carmike always sucked, at least it was close - but this was completely ridiculous.
